Another option is to match your flooring with your shower wall material. This is a gorgeous master bath remodel we did in Mission Viejo. The matching designs make this bathroom feel so bright and beautiful.
Looking to do a glam master bathroom? We’ve dabbled in that area as well. Take a look at this stunning master bathroom with marble flooring. From sleek and simple to elegant and glam, your flooring really sets the foundation of your design choice.
Have a darker style? Consider a darker floor that compliments your walls and contrasts with your countertop and fixtures. This will give your master bathroom a bolder feel. This bathroom expanded the shower walls beyond the shower making this room feel cohesive and larger with one continuous feel.
Heated Bathroom Tile
Heated bathroom tiles for master bathroom flooring are a must. Heated flooring is a great universal design element that is great for cold mornings or evenings that will instantly make your bathroom 100 times more comfortable.
Traditional heating systems heat the air, however radiant heating directly warm your feet when standing on the heated bathroom tile. This allows you to feel warm even though the air around you is not.
Bathrooms are the most common space to have heated flooring because the last thing you want to feel is freezing right after a nice bath or shower. It also makes morning getting ready routines much more comfortable.
Heated bathroom tiles offer uniform heating, no noise, are non-allergenic, energy efficient, and can be easy to install. Definitely worth the splurge!
3. Countertops
Make your master bathroom pop with contrasting countertops and custom cabinets. Quartz is a trending design material for countertops because there is just so much you can do with the material and it’s pretty durable when compared to other remodeling countertop materials. It also is very versatile in the colors and patterns available to you in quartz. If you’re looking to save a little, you may also find pre-fabricated quartz which comes in smaller sizes enabling you to save money by not buying the whole slab, but also limits you in the colors and patterns available. Decisions decisions.
Here is another example of a contrasting countertops design, where the color of the cabinets pop giving the master bathroom a bold but beautiful look.
Or do the complete opposite and consider having your countertops compliment your flooring. This gives your master bath a softer design and can compliment the rest of your bathroom design.
4. Vanity
The perfect his and hers vanity area. If you are a fan of a more simple and soft design, this is perfect for your inspo board! Also notice the difference between floating vanities (image #2 and #3) and vanities with legs (image #1). One gives you more room and another gives you more style. Again the decisions are yours based on your priorities; we’re here to help you make these decisions.
If glam is more your style, consider going all out and having two elongated vanity areas spread out and located on opposite sides of your master bathroom, with an open space.
Opt-in for a sleek design and have a floating vanity area. This is great for smaller bathrooms because it creates the illusion of increased space. This also allows more light to move throughout the space.
Vanity Drawer Outlets
Another functional feature to add to your master bathroom are outlets in your vanity drawer. Having outlets installed in the back of your vanity drawer is great for clearing countertop clutter. This is also useful when getting ready with a blow dryer or curling iron. You can even plug in your phone while getting ready or hopping in the shower. This can also be a place to charge your electric toothbrush overnight.

A shower bench in your master bathroom design can add a spa-like atmosphere. This is the perfect relaxation spot to sit back and relax after a long day. It can even be used for a convenient place to rest your feet while shaving your legs or storing shower toiletries.
Modern Shower Drains
Another sleek and useful master bathroom idea is to ditch the standard round bathroom drain in the shower for an aesthetically pleasing one that is just as functional. It is the little details like this that can really elevate the overall design of the space.
A popular design is incorporating the linear shower drain. This blends in with your shower flooring for a unified and modern look. Linear drains also reduce tripping hazards, and can be easier to clean than a regular drain. They come in a variety of different styles, materials, and sizes so working with your designer on the perfect fit is a must!
6. Soaking Tub
Clients often ask, should I have a tub? Should I keep my tub? Should I replace my master bath tub during my remodel. The answer is, if you use a tub, then add, keep, or replace your tub. The new tubs are free-standing tubs and absolutely stunning in design, so if you do take baths, you’re in for a design treat! Replacing your bathroom vanity handles and knobs will refresh your overall space, however, for a cohesive design make sure to also upgrade your bathtub drain. Overtime, these will wear out from constant use, but replacing them will improve their look and function.
Although they all serve the same purpose, there are different styles of bathtub drain stoppers. The most popular tub drain stoppers are lift-and-turn, push-and-pull, pop-up, toe-touch, and the trip lever. For a smooth modern design, the pop-up drain is a great option, but make sure to consult with your designer before making any decisions!
7. Storage Space
Last but definitely not least, make sure to include storage space in your master bathroom remodel design. You will thank us later! Choose a design that incorporates cabinets along your wall for extra storage space. This will allow you to have room for back-stock on supplies or just an organized place for towels and toiletry essentials.
Or add cabinets and drawers along your wall and underneath your vanity area. If you have a long vanity counter, this will give you plenty of storage room to work with!
Have an intimate master bathroom? It may be more fitting to have built-in cabinets near your vanity area. This will give you plenty of room for storage.
Shower Niches
When it comes to your shower design, make sure to be intentional with your shower niches. Think about how your use them and what you place there so that you can maximize its function for your needs. Do you want two tall niches? Or maybe just one with a shelf in the middle? Will your favorite shampoo bottles fit in the area? These are all questions that you should ask yourself when deciding on the location and size of your niche.
Shower niches are very functional in a master bathroom and are the perfect location to store your shampoos, conditioners, soap, and even things like your razor. Another element to consider is the overall design. Niches can be fun too! A popular niche design is creating an accent with a different style pattern of tile or using a different material such as marble if your shower wall is porcelain.
Floating Shelves
Some master bathroom spaces are more intimate, which means less room for built-in cabinet storage. As an alternate solution we recommend using floating shelves to create extra storage space. Floating shelves can store towels, toilet paper, and even your favorite decoration pieces. Floating shelves are easy and quick to grab from and do not take up floor space if you were to use a basket instead.
Floating shelves are also wonderful for adding storage space that does not look too cluttered or bulky. It gives the bathroom an airy feel, which will even make your space look larger than it is.
8. Fan Timer Switches
Get ready for us to blow your mind with this genius master bathroom idea for your next remodel! Introducing, fan timer switches. A timer switch in your bathroom allows you to choose a preset time for the fan to turn off. They are amazing for removing the moisture, so you don’t have to remember to come back and turn the fan off.
Fan timer switches are most popularly placed in the shower room as well as the toilet room. They tend to have presets of 5, 10, 15, 30,and 60 minutes. The best part is getting a silent fan by installing an in-line ventilation fan that is remote mounted away from the bathroom.
Fan timer switches prevent moldy bathrooms and can save you plenty of money in the long run from having to do major cleanings or mold removals. This is also helpful if you are in a rush to head out and do not want the air to sit still in your bathroom. Just easily turn on the timer and you have nothing to worry about!
9. Update Your Lighting
A fun master bathroom idea for your next remodel is updating your lighting with nontraditional pendant lighting over your tub or vanity. A fun pendant lighting fixture is a neat way to add some personal style to your bathroom, especially when incorporating texture and color.
Make sure to do your research and discuss with your designer the appropriate height for hanging a pendant light in your bathroom. Pendant lighting is best in higher ceiling spaces. They give an added ambiance in addition to canned lighting.
From farmhouse woven basket lighting fixtures to glass Asian style pendant lights, there are so many different designs to choose from. The pendants should complement the overall design you are trying to achieve with your master bathroom.
Pendant lights over the vanity are best in clear glass if you like to get ready with a busy morning routine. Think about what areas in your bathroom you want more light than others. You may want your tub area to be on the darker side, giving a spa-like atmosphere while your vanity is brighter for getting ready. These are things to definitely keep in mind!
