2018 Kitchen Trends: Sink Style Guide

2018 Kitchen Trends: Sink Style Guide

Sink Areas Finally Getting Some Recognition!

kitchen remodel

So far, 2018 has produced some very pleasant new kitchen trends. One, is sinks that serve multiple purposes and functions. Clients, especially those who like to entertain, are drawn toward trough sinks that can be used to chill wine or shellfish, grow herbs and function as a regular sink. Our clients appreciate the wow factor a trough sink has on a new kitchen, especially when the sinks are equipped with LED lights that change color.

The kitchen sink can be a design statement, yet too often, it is an afterthought. Sink sizes, shapes and available materials influence the overall look and feel of a new kitchen. Functionality is another consideration, from the noise that results from running water or placing pots, pans and plates in the sink, to the ease of use. There are sinks today that function as complete workstations, providing another area in the kitchen for meal preparation, chopping, washing, serving and entertaining. And many of our customers, when asked if they want more than one sink in their new kitchen, respond with a resounding yes.

The kitchen faucet is the showpiece of the kitchen area and happens to be the most used appliance in the home. Manufacturers are making smart faucets that can be activated by apps, a wave of the hand or a tap of an elbow. Smart touch faucets are greatly appreciated by home cooks, especially bakers. Similar to a gorgeous outfit, accessories can make the sink area and kitchen more functional and beautiful. Instant hot and cold water, soap dispensers, air gaps, colanders, strainers, chopping boards, dish racks, drying mats and protective grates are among the numerous accessories to enhance the functionality, look and performance of a kitchen.

Design Materials Worth a Second Look

Design Materials Worth a Second Look

Sea Pointe Design ElementsWhen planning any type of home remodel, it all comes down to design. There are certain design elements that will always evoke luxury and style; who hasn’t swooned over a fabulous marble or granite countertop at one time or another? Admired an exotic tigerwood hardwood floor or coveted unique architectural craftmanship in a home? We all have!

These types of design elements are MEANT to be admired. However, beautiful and luxurious design isn’t limited to only a few select materials. With today’s modern technology we are seeing some newcomers that are working hard to steal the show!

Quartz Reigns Supreme

It took a while for quartz countertops to make their way into the kitchen. The lack of color and finish variety was a major drawback for many homeowners. However, quartz is now easily and readily available in a wide range of colors and patterns, making it a highly sought-after product for high-end kitchen countertops. Quartz is anti-microbial, a breeze to maintain, extremely hardy and can last virtually forever.

Flooring Options

Hardwood floors are still the most popular choice when remodeling a home, but close on its heels is ceramic tile. No, we are not talking about your mom’s ceramic tile from back in the 80’s, but modern gorgeous ceramic that doesn’t even look like ceramic tile.

Thanks to technology, you can get ceramic tiles that look exactly like hardwood flooring, but with a material that is easier to maintain. In addition to wood, ceramic tiles can be designed to resemble a range of other materials as well, including natural stone. Even the surface texture is changed to mimic these materials. The sky is truly the limit when it comes to ceramic tile options, from unique patterns to countless sizes, we see why ceramic is becoming so popular.

We hope these newcomers will help inspire your own ideas for your home renovation. From functionality to aesthetics, today’s modern homes are the ultimate in luxury, and we can help make this a reality for you and your family.

How to Update Your Kitchen Design for 2018

How to Update Your Kitchen Design for 2018

There is no arguing that the kitchen is the focal point of any home – it’s the one place that brings everyone together, whether for entertaining purposes or just as a gathering spot after a long busy day. Once upon a time, kitchens were considered just functional spaces where meals were prepared, and dishes washed. Not anymore! Today’s modern kitchens have evolved into the central hub of the home, brimming with updated technology and fabulous design style.

Oftentimes, when considering a home remodel, the kitchen is the very first place homeowners look to start. A gorgeous, multifunctional kitchen design can set the tone for the rest of the home. We have seen many kitchen design trends over the years, but the trends for 2018 are shaping up to provide us with even more incredible kitchen spaces.

Smart Kitchens

One of the biggest trends going into 2018 is the smart kitchen. Technology has made a grand entrance into the modern kitchen, and not just in the form of high end appliances and fancy gadgets. We are seeing technology being integrated into every function and appliance. From motion sensor faucets to refrigerators that can alert you to when your groceries are running low, technology is making a splash in a big way. There are even gadgets that can monitor your eggs and can tell you which ones are the freshest!

If you are replacing your cabinets during your kitchen renovation, consider adding a drawer or two that are equipped with power outlets. This ingenious design allows you to charge all your electronic devices, safely tucked away, without the unsightly mess of cords and equipment strewn all around the counters.

Your smartphone or tablet is also able to link to many of today’s kitchen appliances. There are ovens that can be operated right from your device, refrigerators that will allow you to peruse their items and even lights that can be controlled right from your phone.

Playing with Color

White and grey cabinets continue to dominate as the top cabinet colors going into 2018. As with any modern design trend, clean and simple styles have become favorites for homeowners. They are beautiful, timeless and easily integrated into most kitchen design styles, which is why homeowners continue to love them.

Adding some contrast and interest however, another color palette is slowly making its way into the kitchen. Dark jewel tones, such as navy, emerald green, black and even plum are popping up all over. It might surprise you, but these dark colors, either in cabinets or as accent colors, work amazingly well to enhance a kitchen space and give it a dramatic and luxurious feel.

How To Plan A Home Remodel : Ultimate Preparation Guide

How To Plan A Home Remodel : Ultimate Preparation Guide

KEY POINTS TO CONSIDER

Sea Pointe Design & RemodelProject Planning for home remodel believes that attention to details and meticulous planning are essential to a successful design and residential remodel. Accounting for specific construction logistics before starting a project is something the Sea Pointe Design & Remodel team prides ourselves on. This extra effort is also what keeps a project on schedule and within budget. The same careful planning and consideration applies to homeowners thinking about a residential remodel. We find that prioritizing a remodel according to the following factors help homeowners though decisions that affect cost, lead time and aesthetic.

Needs vs. Wants

First, we advise homeowners to call out those areas of the home where they would like to see the most change versus those spaces that can do without a major modification. In other words, what spaces are fine with a “remove and replace” style remodel, and what spaces need a reworked space plan? Itemizing your remodel in such a way will help to keep you focused on results. It is easy to get caught up in all the “pretty & fun” elements of home remodeling, but a prioritized list will help to keep a project’s scope of work realistic.

Timeline

Everyone craves instant gratification but before ripping out your kitchen, be sure you have all plans and materials for your kitchen remodel ready to go! This is especially important when working with specialty design materials which may have longer lead times, such as tile or cabinets. Sea Pointe Design & Remodel schedules demolition days in accordance with material delivery dates.  Not planning accordingly will lead to unnecessary stress and an unexpectedly long project. Although you may be eager to get the job done in record time, do not start until all your ducks are in a row.

Design

The Sea Pointe Design & Remodel design team understands that clients are eager to jump into the design phase. After all, material selection and color renderings are arguably the most exciting part of any home remodel. However; before spending time with your designer in our showroom, we advise clients to research design styles and elements on websites such as Houzz and Pinterest. Being prepared with a broad design aesthetic helps your designer to understand your style. This can save time during design, moving your construction start date up on the calendar.

Time Conscious & Budget Focused Remodeling

Time Conscious & Budget Focused Remodeling

Sea Pointe Budget Conscious RemodelingHome remodeling projects are typically a large investment of not only money, but time. The most important thing you can do when considering a remodel, is planning your project from start to finish. If a kitchen remodel is not planned upfront, you can easily become overloaded and stressed throughout the process. Consider reaching out to a professional to help take the load off. Below are some tips and tricks we share with our clients during the planning phase to help make their projects more manageable.

Needs versus Wants

Make a list of those areas which you want to see the most change, versus those where you can do without a major modification. Itemizing your remodel in such a way will help keep you focused on results. It is easy to get caught up in all the “pretty & fun” elements of home remodeling, but a priority list will keep your project on track and within budget.

Create a Timeline

Everyone craves instant gratification, but before you rip off your backsplash, be sure to know when the replacement will be arriving! Not planning for material selection, lead time and installation properly, is a common oversight when scheduling a remodel. Not planning accordingly, will lead to unnecessary stress, a lengthy job and costly expedited shipping fees. Although you may be eager to get the job done in record time, do not start until you’re confident in your game plan.

Update Hardware & Fixtures

So, you want to give your cabinets a new look without ripping everything out and starting fresh. How about replacing your fixtures and hardware to give your kitchen a brighter, more updated feel? For those kitchens with old-school oil rubbed bronze knobs & pulls, finding a replacement knob to match the design style of the space might be challenging. Consider changing the look of your kitchen by changing the hardware color to gold or brass. That color palette is beautiful for hardware and is coming back in a big way!

Remnant Stone

For those smaller areas of the home, like a secondary bathroom vanity, or bar top area where you’d love to have a natural stone detail, you can ask your slab yard if they have a remnant stone! These hidden gems are usually pieces of stone leftover from larger jobs, but can be used in smaller applications for a fraction of the price! And the best part is, no one would ever know the difference.

Remove & Replace

For those kitchen or bathroom remodels working within a tight budget, we recommend a “remove & replace” type remodel. This means that there are minimal or no alterations made to the plumbing within the home. Remove and replace is for those clients who need general updates to the space and is not for those clients who have a problem with the actual layout of the space. Remove and replace significantly cuts costs of the remodel, which may give a client the freedom to splurge on another area of the home like a fabulous backsplash or killer flooring.
