Not only is it a new year but a new decade as well. What are your home plans for 2020? Are you thinking about remodeling? The kitchen is the heart of the home and typically the first update a home owner considers remodeling. Your kitchen remodel can make a major difference for your home design and value. Before taking on any kitchen remodel, you want to think about what kitchen design look you want for your home and what type of kitchen renovations you’re willing to take on.
Open shelving has become an increasingly popular kitchen design feature among our clients because it provides a combination of an aesthetic focal point with superb functionality. Open shelves offer a look with universal appeal. They enable homeowners to showcase a dramatic back splash, display dishes, pottery, sculptures, plants, herbs, and dishware and glassware, among numerous other options. Plus, open shelves provide home chefs with the functionality to access their favorite cooking tools within arm’s reach. So, what’s the downside? Open shelves limit storage and can contribute to a cluttered look and feel.
The most popular layout among U.S. homeowners undertaking a kitchen renovation is L-shaped, according to a recent Houzz.com survey. Nearly 50 percent of homeowners changed or plan to change the layout of the kitchen as part of their remodeling plan. U-shaped kitchens were the second most popular layout, followed by a galley layout.
Finish often dictates the look, feel and performance of kitchen cabinets. Paint and stain are the two types of finishes applied to almost every cabinet. They are substantially different and offer unique bites of the apple. Which is better?

When you’re choosing material for new countertops in your kitchen or bath, you may not know exactly where to start to find the best choice. Since countertops are a significant design element and a frequently used surface, you’ll want to choose well. The good news is that there are many types of materials, each with varying looks and characteristics, to fit a variety of tastes and budgets.
The kitchen is one of the most-used rooms in any house, and one of the areas that can make or break an owner’s satisfaction with their home. If your kitchen feels old and outdated, you won’t enjoy spending time in it nearly as much as if it reflects up-to-date style and features. There are a variety of ways you can modernize your kitchen, from simple fixes to more involved upgrades.
Many of us like to think our methods of organization always work. But as our days become busier and our rooms face clutter, we often find ourselves searching for any extra space to house our belongings. A fix to this problem can be the installation of custom storage. Wall cabinets and open shelves are two popular options for freeing up the space in your room. Whether you are hoping to hide the mess from guests or eagerly show off your favorite displays, custom cabinetry or open shelving can be the ticket for managing all of your extra stuff.
There are more countertop materials available now than ever before. With so many options, it can be tempting to simply choose one based on looks alone. However, there’s a lot more to consider than just aesthetics. Homeowners are wise to assess how they use a kitchen before deciding on any countertop material. What works for a single business person who is rarely home can be dramatically different than what’s needed for a busy family with kids.
Arguably the heart of the home, kitchens should not only be welcoming, but also employ functionality to make the cook’s life easier. Often times, families can become overwhelmed in terms of organizing kitchen tools, appliances, and décor… especially when space is sparse. Are you almost ready to hang up the towel? Perhaps you are at the point where you are ready for a custom solution. These common kitchen problems can be fixed with customized kitchen cabinets and drawers to make your life easier and your kitchen more organized.
Ponder the question: what is the foundation of any great kitchen? Is it the custom cabinets, or perhaps the window treatments? Maybe even the countertop or backsplash? While those things are important, the material you choose for your kitchen floors is pivotal in creating just the right atmosphere. Additionally, your initial choice of flooring is key if you want your kitchen’s appearance to be kept up over a long period of time.
Have you ever been in the kitchen busy cooking a meal and silently wondering what everyone else was doing in the house? What about baking cookies but running in and out of the living room trying to grab the last bit of the family’s conversation while trying not to ruin that fabulous recipe by leaving them in the oven for too long? Clearly, isolating the person in charge of making dinner in the kitchen all by themselves isn’t conducive to conversations. After school and after work, during preparations for the last meal of the day, is an optimum time for family members to gather and talk. Just think of all the opportunities to communicate that you’re missing out on if the kitchen isn’t comfortable and inviting.
In the mist of the holiday season, may we suggest starting your gift list for Santa with the words: “Dream Kitchen”? Wouldn’t that be the best gift ever? Many of our clients come to in the new year after another frustrating holiday season. After entertaining friends and family in an outdated kitchen, many clients come to us in the new year because they’ve spend another frustrating holiday season in a kitchen lacking an open floor plan, counter space, and is really just an eye sore.
We are very excited to share this gorgeous kitchen in Irvine on the blog today. These Sea Pointe clients love to cook and were ready to come home to their dream kitchen. Since they were willing to think outside the box , they decided on two cabinet door styles in their kitchen—one for the upper cabinets and one for the base cabinets. All cabinets are Bellmont 1900 series and for the base cabinets they decided on the Kahana door style in Sapele with French Roast. For the perimeter cabinets, as well as the uppers, they went with the Islands door style in Sapele Natural with a Caramelized Bamboo finish. On their large island they blended both kitchen cabinet styles to create synergy throughout the kitchen.  To check out more before and after pictures, see our facebook photo album: Sizzling Kitchen Remodel.
