Best Countertops to Pair with a Blue Kitchen

Best Countertops to Pair with a Blue Kitchen

blue kitchen island-mission-viejoTake a look at Pinterest, Houzz, or any number of other online resources these days and you’ll see that having a blue kitchen is one of the most popular kitchen trends. While blue can certainly be bold and beautiful, it can also turn dark and daunting if the rest of the room isn’t designed with care.

From lighting choices and wall paint colors to flooring features and tile backsplash designs, there are several things you can do to be able to have a blue kitchen and enjoy it, too. Today, we’ll focus on 5 different countertop options that pair nicely with blue cabinets without creating a dark and somber feel.

5 Great Countertop Options for a Blue Kitchen

1. Gorgeous Gray Countertops

A blue kitchen may already feel dark enough so why choose gray countertops? When paired with lightly colored walls, the gray against blue cabinets actually gives off a subdued vibe but looks especially elegant next to stainless steel appliances. While the overall tone is more muted, the kitchen can still be plenty bright with the right lighting and light colored paint or tile backsplashes on the walls.

2. Warm Wood Finishes

An entire kitchen outfitted with all blue cabinetry may feel cold and uninviting if not properly designed. Add warmth to the space with beautiful wood countertops. Honey-toned wood with a grainy texture looks and feels wonderful. It also gives the room a natural and farmhouse-like or vintage vibe.

3. Wonderful White Countertops

Regardless of the material they’re made from, white countertops contrast beautifully with blue kitchen cabinets. In fact, the light color makes the blue of the cabinets pop while also giving the room a clean, streamlined feel.

In this Newport Beach kitchen remodel, the owners opted for two-toned cabinetry with dark navy blue for the central island cabinets and white for the perimeter cabinets. Stylish and sleek Calcutta Belleza white quartzite countertops pair easily with both cabinet colors along with the white and gray tile backsplash above the range.

Light-colored countertops can also work well even when cabinets are a lighter blue. In this Huntington Beach kitchen remodel, quartz countertops are more of an off-white color. When paired with baby blue cabinets, the color palette pays homage to the home’s coastal location and reminds you of the sand and sea nearby.

4. Marvelous Marble Countertops

One of the benefits of a marble countertop is the fact that marble comes in a variety of colors and designs. White marble can look absolutely stunning against dark blue kitchen cabinets. And, marble with a unique veined design adds visual intrigue while also pulling together multiple kitchen colors.

For example, the marble countertop in this Mission Viejo kitchen remodel has a white background. Throughout it, however, are gray veins and flecks of color that pair perfectly with the backsplash tiles on the walls and stainless steel appliances and fixtures.

Bold Blue kitchen design

5. Bold and Beautiful Black Countertops

Last, but certainly not least, are black countertops. While using black can certainly darken a blue kitchen, it adds a dramatic flair along with a luxurious, elegant feel. If the room is too dark with black countertops, lighter flooring and backsplashes along with bright lighting can be used to lighten the space.

In 2025, the focus on home improvement and remodeling continues to grow, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. These spaces are not only functional but are necessary for everyday tasks.

Orange County remodeling forecast for 2023

A well-planned remodel can improve both the aesthetic appeal and utility of these essential areas, making daily routines more enjoyable and efficient.

However, staying ahead of the trends and ensuring your renovation meets both current demands and future needs can be challenging. How can you make informed decisions that add lasting value and style to your home?

This article dives into the 2026 kitchen and bath remodeling forecast, uncovering the latest trends and expert tips to help you create modern and timeless spaces.

1. What’s Driving 2026 Remodeling Trends?

orange-county-home-remodeling

Economic Factors

Home values and interest rates impact renovation decisions. With many homeowners choosing to renovate rather than move, the focus is on remodeling for both comfort and resale value.

Technology & Innovation

From smart appliances to voice-controlled faucets, tech is transforming kitchens and bathrooms. More homeowners want spaces that connect seamlessly with their lifestyles through automation and AI-powered convenience.

Sustainability & Eco-Friendly Living

Green remodeling is on the rise. There’s a growing demand for:

  • Water-saving fixtures: These include low-flow faucets and smart showers.
  • Energy-efficient appliances: These devices consume less electricity or water while delivering the same level of performance as their standard counterparts. They often feature advanced technology that enhances their operational efficiency, reducing energy waste.
  • Eco-friendly materials: Examples are recycled wood and VOC-free finishes.

2. Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2026

sea-pointe-design-and-remodel-kitchen-remodel-in-tustin

a. Changing Layouts

While open floor plans are still popular, more homeowners are bringing back some separation for privacy and organization. They’re also opting for multi-functional islands that are bigger and more useful, with built-in storage, seating, and charging stations.

Other popular design choices are hidden appliances, including integrated refrigerators and dishwashers that blend seamlessly into cabinetry for a sleek, minimalist look.

b. Bold Materials & Finishes

People are switching from all-white kitchens to rich blues, greens, and even matte black cabinets. They also use mixed materials, including wood, stone, and metal accents for contrast and texture.

When it comes to countertop materials, quartz remains a top choice, but expect to see more composite stone and recycled surfaces in 2025.

c. Smart Kitchens & High-Tech Upgrades

Voice-activated everything, from lights to ovens, smart home tech is making cooking and cleaning easier. Some homeowners are even investing in appliances with AI-assisted features, like fridges that track groceries and suggest recipes.

Custom lighting solutions, such as adjustable LED lighting for different moods and tasks, are becoming a must-have.

3. Bathroom Remodeling Trends for 2025

a. Spa-Like Luxury at Home

While freestanding tubs are still trendy, people are shifting to oversized, walk-in showers with built-in seating. Adding to the luxury and comfort are heated features like towel warmers, heated floors, and smart mirrors.

Then, there are nature-inspired designs, which involve using wood, stone, and plant accents to add a spa-like feel to bathrooms.

b. Smart & Sustainable Bathrooms

Touchless fixtures, including motion-sensor faucets and self-cleaning toilets, improve hygiene and convenience. Smart toilets and digital shower controls also help conserve water without sacrificing performance.

In addition, most homeowners choose eco-friendly finishes, such as low-VOC paints, recycled tiles, and sustainable cabinetry.

4. The Shift Toward Aging-in-Place & Universal Design

ADA-Age-In-Place-Universal-Design-grab-bars-curbless-entry-zero-threshold-sitting-bench

More homeowners are thinking long-term with their remodels. Aging-in-place designs ensure that your home remains functional and accessible for years.

An increasing number of individuals also prioritize universal design principles in their homes, ensuring that people with varying abilities can access and utilize their living spaces on an equal footing. Key universal design features include:

  • Curbless showers with grab bars that don’t look “medical.”
  • Touch-free faucets and motion-sensor lighting.
  • Lower countertops and pull-out shelving for easy access.

5. Where to Invest for the Best ROI?

If resale value is a priority, focus on these high-impact updates:

  • Energy-efficient appliances (kitchens)
  • Updated lighting & fixtures (kitchens & bathrooms)
  • Stone countertops (kitchens)
  • Walk-in showers (bathrooms)

Summary

So, what can we conclude about the kitchen and bath remodeling forecast for 2026? Well, it proves that homeowners are embracing smart, stylish, and sustainable upgrades.

Orange County Remodeling Forecast for 2026

Orange County remodeling forecast for 2023

Orange County is well-known for its beautiful homes and luxurious lifestyle. But to maintain your property’s value and aesthetic appeal there, you need to stay updated with the latest design trends and renovation practices.

As a result, many Orange County homeowners are gearing up for renovations in 2026, including kitchen makeovers, spa-like bathrooms, or complete home transformations.

That said, navigating the remodeling process can be daunting. So, if you plan to make some updates, how can you ensure that your renovation project is in line with current trends and stands the test of time?

The best way is to understand what’s ahead, and this guide provides an Orange County remodeling forecast for 2026. It includes what to expect, what’s trending, and how to prepare for a smooth remodeling experience.

1. The State of the Remodeling Market in Orange County

Home remodeling is booming in Orange County, but that doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing. Here’s what’s shaping the industry in 2026:

  • Rising Demand: Many homeowners are choosing to renovate instead of move, which means remodels are in high demand.
  • Economic Factors: Interest rates, home values, and the cost of labor and materials all play a role in remodeling decisions and could lead to affordability challenges.
  • Material Prices: The cost of key materials like lumber, countertops, and tiles will likely fluctuate due to limited inventory, which could impact budgets.

While remodeling isn’t getting cheaper, good planning can help you navigate these changes and get the most value for your investment.

2. What to Expect When Remodeling in Orange County in 2026

Remodeling is an exciting process, but it comes with challenges. Here’s what to be ready for in 2025:

Longer Lead Times

Want custom cabinets or special tiles? Expect to wait. Supply chain delays continue to affect home improvement projects, so it is important to order materials ahead.

Rising Costs

Inflation and high demand mean remodeling prices may increase. Setting a clear budget with a little wiggle room for surprises is a smart move.

Permitting and Regulations

Orange County has specific building codes, which are updated regularly. To prevent unexpected hurdles, you should work with a professional like Sea Pointe to handle the permitting and regulations.

Contractor Availability

Good remodelers get booked fast. If you’re planning a project, hire a reputable company early to get the best team and, possibly, the best price for the job.

3. Top Home Remodeling Trends for 2026

If you’re wondering how to make your home stylish, functional, and future-proof, these trends are leading the way:

  • High-tech features like LED mirrors and digital shower controls.
  • Natural materials, including stone and wood, for a calming atmosphere.

5. How to Prepare for a Successful Remodel in 2026

How to Choose the Right Flooring for Your Remodel

How to Choose the Right Flooring for Your Remodel

Kitchen remodel in Lake Forest with GemCore flooring - How To Choose The Right FlooringAlthough it may not be glamorous or exciting, selecting the right flooring could very well be one of the most important decisions you make during a remodel. That’s because the type of flooring you choose has a significant impact on the overall comfort, style, and function of the room you’re renovating.

You may be tempted to make the decision easy by simply replacing your existing flooring with an updated version of the same material. But is that truly the right flooring for the room? If it has already performed well for many years and you like its look, style, and cost, go ahead and use the same material. But if you want an updated look or a flooring material that’s more durable, it’s time to see what else is available.

Today, we’re going to walk you through some of the most important factors to consider that will help you decide the right flooring for your remodel. Then, we’ll look at some of the popular flooring choices on the market today so you can see what’s out there for options.

Factors to Consider to Help You Choose the Right Flooring

There’s no doubt that planning a remodel comes with a lot of decisions to make. And before those decisions can be finalized, there are plenty of questions that need to be asked and answered. That’s why we recommend you work with a professional remodeling company that also has expert home designers on staff. When you work with a professional designer, they can answer the questions you already have but also help you think about things you may not have considered on your own.

For example, it’s tempting for homeowners to make their flooring decision based on cost and appearance alone. In reality, there are several other factors to consider that can help you choose the right flooring for the long term:

Flooring Comfort

Just because a flooring material looks pretty and fits your remodeling budget, it doesn’t mean it’s the right flooring for your remodel. Think about how it will feel on an everyday basis. For example, stone flooring can look beautiful and its cool feeling on your feet can be a welcome addition for homeowners living in a warm climate. Those who live in cooler areas, however, may find stone tiles to be cold and unwelcoming unless they also have radiant heat installed.

Also consider whether you will be standing on the floor for long periods of time, perhaps preparing a meal in the kitchen or doing laundry in the laundry room. Some flooring materials are more comfortable to stand on than others. Ultimately, the right flooring will be what matches best with how the room will be used.

Choose The Right Flooring For Cleaning and Maintenance

When you visit a showroom or look at online portfolios of completed home renovations, the floors always look beautiful, clean and pristine. But, how much work is required to keep them looking that way on a daily basis? If you have small children at home, expect that spills, scratches, and dents will happen, and choose a durable but easy-to-clean flooring material.

Even without little ones, everyday foot traffic will cause wear and tear on any floor. Decide how much time you’re willing to invest on a regular basis to clean and maintain your flooring. Then, pick a flooring material whose cleaning and maintenance requirements fit your commitment level.

Health and Environmental Concerns

If you care about your family’s health, along with that of the environment, choosing the right flooring is a big decision. If you like wood floors, for example, you can select flooring certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and be assured it comes from responsibly and sustainably managed forests. Similarly, if you want to reduce harmful chemicals in your home, choose flooring that gives off little or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Choose The Right Flooring Options for Your Remodel

Now that you know what to look for and think about when choosing the right flooring, let’s look at a few of the more popular options currently available.

Wood Flooring

Wood-flooring-in-Rancho-Santa-Margarita-master-bathroom-renovation - How To Choose The Right FlooringThe appearance of wood flooring is popular with homeowners who are looking for a more natural look. These days, however, there are several ways to get that look, some of which don’t include wood at all.

  • Hardwood Flooring – This is the real deal with flooring made from solid pieces of wood or with a thin veneer of wood applied to a plywood layer. Wood can be refinished multiple times so this material can last a long time if taken care of properly.

  • Laminate Wood Flooring – Cheaper than real wood, this type of flooring gives the appearance of wood. However, it’s actually made from a photo of wood covered with a plastic coating and adhered to a fiberboard backing. While it can’t be refinished like real wood, it does come with a lower price tag and is often more resistant to scratches and dents.

  • Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) Flooring – Available in a variety of styles, LVT flooring is more expensive than laminate flooring but it does a better job of mimicking the look of real wood. Vinyl tiles can be used to give a natural wood appearance but are more stain, scratch, and dent resistant than real wood. Unlike actual hardwood flooring, however, luxury vinyl tiles cannot be refinished.

Carpeting

Master suite room addition - How To Choose The Right FlooringCarpeted floors are often a great way to soften a room and add comfort, especially in areas that aren’t highly trafficked. Think bedrooms, dens, and even some family rooms. Available in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures, carpet is an affordable flooring choice and is also easily maintained with regular vacuuming and occasional shampooing. There are even some options that are more resistant to dust and dirt which can be a smart choice for people with allergies.

Tile Flooring

Geometric floor tile in kids' bathroom remodel - How To Choose The Right FlooringPrimarily made from ceramic or porcelain, tile flooring is a home designer’s paradise. That’s because these tiles come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, making for endless design options. Tile flooring can perfectly blend with the room’s overall design theme or even be a design statement all on its own. If you’re planning a bathroom remodel, tile could be the right flooring option since it’s waterproof and easy to clean and maintain. It’s not always easy to install, however, so this is another area where working with a design-build team for your remodel is a plus.

Other Flooring Materials

Wood, carpet, and tile are some of the more popular flooring options but the list doesn’t end there. Here are a few other flooring materials you might consider for your remodel:

  • Concrete (durable, easy to maintain, and pairs well with radiant heating but hard and unforgiving if you drop fragile items on it)
  • Linoleum (all-natural, comfortable, and resists fading but not as durable as vinyl)
  • Cork (non-toxic, eco-friendly, and comfortable but fades and scratches easily)
  • Stone (durable, resists fading, and is full of character but is pricey and requires professional installation)

Selecting A Kitchen Sink: Key Factors to Consider

Selecting A Kitchen Sink: Key Factors to Consider

White farmhouse kitchen sink and blue cabinetsWhether you’re planning an entire kitchen remodel or you simply want to upgrade what you already have, choosing the right kitchen sink is essential. With the wide variety of options available on the market today, however, how will you ever select the best one? We’re here to help you answer that very question with some key factors to consider during the selection process.

5 Kitchen Sink Factors That Impact Style and Performance

1. Kitchen Sink Material

French scroll design on kitchen sink in Lake Forest kitchen remodel

From stainless steel and quartz composite to cast iron, porcelain, and more, the options for kitchen sink materials might seem almost endless. That’s why it’s important to understand how each type performs in terms of:

  • Overall durability
  • Price
  • Ease of cleaning
  • Scratch, stain, and hard water resistance
  • Antimicrobial capabilities
  • … And more

Of course, the appearance of the material matters too, as you seek to combine aesthetics with function in a way that makes your kitchen a beautiful but efficient place to work. Below, we’ve listed a few popular kitchen sink materials along with some of their most and least desirable qualities.

Common Kitchen Sink Materials:

  • Stainless Steel – With an average lifespan of 15-30 years, stainless steel sinks are a smart choice if you’re looking for durability, scratch and stain resistance, and easy cleaning at an affordable price. If you have hard water, though, you may have to put up with pesky water spots or hard water stains.

  • Cast Iron – Sinks made from this material can be very heavy but on the positive side, last 20-30 years! Cast iron sinks are also hard water and scratch resistant, easy to clean, and can fit perfectly in a farmhouse style kitchen. They are susceptible to scratches though, and come with a higher price tag than stainless steel.

  • Quartz Composite – Do you like the look of stone but you’re not a fan of the high price tag that comes along with it? A kitchen sink made from quartz composite could be the solution! This material is extremely durable, has a stone-like appearance, and is resistant to heat, sound, scratches, dents, stains, and hard water. If you’re a little klutzy, however, it may not be so forgiving when you drop dishes in the sink.

Of course, the list of kitchen sink materials goes on and on (copper, fireclay, brass, granite, etc.) but you get the idea. If you’re not sure what material to choose, work with a professional kitchen designer to find out what will work best for your specific situation.

2. Type of Installation

farmhouse-sink-kitchen-renovation - kitchen sink

In the past, there weren’t a lot of sink installation types to consider. With today’s modern sinks, however, you can get a drop-in, undermount, apron-front, or integral installation. Drop-in sinks are the most traditional option and are the easiest and cheapest installation method. On the opposite end of the spectrum are integral sinks which are installed seamlessly with the adjacent countertop and made of the same material.

The choice here ultimately comes down to two primary factors:

  • The overall look you want to achieve
  • How much money you have in your remodeling budget

3. Kitchen Sink Depthfarmhouse kitchen sink

The size of your sink’s bowl can have a significant impact on how easy it is to use. If you wash large pots and pans by hand, for example, a deep sink is ideal. The deeper the sink, the more room it takes up, however, so you’ll also need to consider how much room is necessary in the cabinet below. Deeper sinks are also more difficult for children or shorter people to reach into and may be cumbersome for extremely tall people to use, too.

How do you decide which kitchen sink depth is right for you? Consider the ways in which you’ll be using the sink as well as who will be using it most on a regular basis.

4. Kitchen Sink Width and Bowl Arrangement

Divided Sink Inset Into Quartz Countertop on Peninsula in Newport Beach Remodel

While depth is certainly important, overall width is a key factor to consider, too. In addition, you’ll want to decide whether your sink should be one bowl or multiple.

Again, your final decision will usually come down to who’s using the sink and how it’s being used. Cost is also a factor, with larger sinks costing more, and appearance matters, too. You’ll want a sink that’s big enough for what you need to do but not oversized for the space it’s in.

5. Location, Location, Location

sink-faucet-garbage-disposal

Where your kitchen sink is located is just as important as what it’s made out of and how it looks. For example, if you have a dishwasher, the sink should be located within easy reaching distance. This makes for an efficient work space as dishes are rinsed and then placed in the dishwasher for final washing.

Also consider what someone standing at the sink will have to look at. For kitchen sinks installed on outside walls, it’s nice to have a window above the sink so there’s something of interest in view. Similarly, sinks installed in a kitchen island could look out over an adjacent room or dining area.
